WHO - incentives to improve recruitment and retention - Asia Pacific

HCA has recently supported the development of a World Health Organisation (WHO) - Western Pacific Regional Office policy document with academics from Latrobe and Monash Universities on a key health human resources issue. The policy is titled:

Effective incentives to improve the recruitment and retention of health workers in primary health care settings in Asia and the Pacific

It will be available soon on the WHO regional office website and from our website. It provides an overview of incentives that have been attempted in Asia and Pacific countries especially to improve retention and gives some advice to policy makers on pathways that might deliver more promising outcomes.

In a separate development, HCA’s Principal, Lee Ridoutt, has been contracted by the Human Resources for Health (HRH) Knowledge Hub to be a part of their Expert Advisory Executive Group. The Hub is an AUSAid funded knowledge management centre within the School of Public Health and Community Medicine at UNSW, with a broad objective to develop innovative policy options for strengthening HRH systems in Asia Pacific countries.
