Project team: OzHelp-Tony Holland, Brenton Tainsh, Keith Todd and Belinda Rule, Content Experts-Jan Ewing, Martin Harris and Derek Volker, HCA-Lee Ridoutt, Victoria Pilbeam and Joanne Bagnulo
HCA’s long standing strategic partner OzHelp has been commissioned by Department of Veterans’ Affairs to develop a range of online suicide prevention and postvention resources in collaboration with HCA. Several of HCA’s longstanding associates will also work on this project including Michelle Strickland, Martin Harris and Jan Ewing. There are two broad target group populations for the online resources, namely, veterans and peacekeepers and family and friends. The specific project deliverables are to provide:
• online suicide awareness and postvention resources linked to the DVA At Ease website for the veteran/peacekeeping community which will include information on suicide specific crisis assistance, risk factors, protective factors, myths around suicide, impact of military service, and help seeking information including helpline numbers, resources and internet links. For those users of the website who want to go beyond awareness there will be a self-screening component to assess suicide risk and an interactive online suicide prevention training package;
• postvention resources; and
• an evaluation of the uptake and effectiveness of the online suicide awareness and postvention resources which will build understanding of best practice in online suicide prevention effort.
The resources are to go live in June, 2012 and the evaluation component is to be completed by February, 2013
